GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Police in the Greenville area say they’ve seized more than 24 kilograms of cocaine worth nearly $2.5 million. The Daily Reflector of Greenville reported Wednesday that a task force announced the arrests of Eddie Ballard of Vanceboro and Pedro Garcia Ruelas of Chapel Hill.

SYLVA, N.C. (AP) — Wildlife officers have charged a Jackson County man with killing a bear in a tree near his property. The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Thursday that John Caplinger of Sylva was charged with taking a bear during a closed hunting season after he shot the bear Sunday.
